Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Marine Transport, Precision Instruments and Fishery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519), which rose 8.81% or 300.0 points to trade at 3705.0 at the close. Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) added 4.51% or 39.0 points to end at 904.0 and Toyota Tsusho Corp. (T:8015) was up 4.19% or 130.0 points to 3230.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202), which lost 8.69% or 81.0 points to trade at 851.0 in late trade. SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (T:9412) declined 6.93% or 35.0 points to end at 470.0 and Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208) shed 6.57% or 18.0 points to 256.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2304 to 731 and 294 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.73% to 19.56.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.54% or 0.29 to $53.59 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.42% or 0.24 to hit $56.56 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.64% or 7.75 to trade at $1216.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.46% to 112.72, while EUR/JPY fell 0.32% to 121.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 99.49.
