Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Warehousing, Transport and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (TOKYO:3436), which rose 8.61% or 109.0 points to trade at 1375.0 at the close. Sekisui House, Ltd. (TOKYO:1928) added 5.15% or 96.5 points to end at 1971.5 and Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5413) was up 4.60% or 57.0 points to 1295.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4911), which lost 4.84% or 160.0 points to trade at 3143.5 in late trade. The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503) declined 4.66% or 79.0 points to end at 1614.5 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:2269) shed 4.54% or 940.0 points to 19770.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1001 to 877 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.02% to 17.91.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.12% or 0.51 to $44.45 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.85% or 0.43 to hit $50.59 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.59% or 6.50 to trade at $1097.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.24% to 124.93, while EUR/JPY fell 0.27% to 136.98.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.39% at 97.61.
