Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Power, Mining and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 6.04% or 45.40 points to trade at 797.60 at the close. Nomura Holdings Inc (TYO:8604) added 5.86% or 51.40 points to end at 927.80 and Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) was up 5.74% or 159.50 points to 2,939.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506), which lost 3.49% or 13.00 points to trade at 360.00 in late trade. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568) declined 3.24% or 178.00 points to end at 5,324.00 and Sony Corp (TYO:6758) shed 2.91% or 380.00 points to 12,680.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2552 to 1089 and 239 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.63% to 19.91.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.14% or 0.11 to $78.59 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.13% or 0.11 to hit $83.44 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.16% or 3.80 to trade at $2,327.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.39% to 154.48, while EUR/JPY rose 0.27% to 166.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 105.14.
