Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, Healthcare and Green Energy sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Real Estate and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.04%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 3.54% or 40.10 points to trade at 1172.30 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.03% or 10.70 points to end at 538.70 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) was up 1.91% or 4.60 points to 244.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC), which lost 3.61% or 14.75 points to trade at 393.50 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.64% or 4.35 points to end at 160.45 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) shed 2.62% or 29.40 points to 1094.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.03% to 538.70, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.50% to settle at 294.55 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which gained 1.41% to close at 1650.35.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.82% to 160.50 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 2.62% to settle at 1094.25 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 2.49% to 1066.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1008 to 554 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1521 fell and 1071 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.68% to 11.2075.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.53% or 6.57 to $1252.37 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.56% or 0.24 to hit $42.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.85% or 0.38 to trade at $45.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.06% to 64.537, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 72.0465.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 97.22.
