Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Saturday, as losses in the Technology, Auto and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.86% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Bank Ltd (NSE:HDBK), which rose 1.86% or 31.70 points to trade at 1,732.40 at the close. Shriram Finance Ltd. (NSE:SHMF) added 1.73% or 10.50 points to end at 617.30 and Coal India Ltd (NSE:COAL) was up 1.51% or 5.50 points to 369.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Ltd (NSE:TEML), which lost 6.32% or 100.40 points to trade at 1,487.85 in late trade. Wipro Ltd (NSE:WIPR) declined 5.72% or 16.85 points to end at 277.65 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE:INBK) shed 5.41% or 56.60 points to 990.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 1.86% to 1,731.10, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 0.04% to settle at 1,015.85 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 0.62% to close at 1,199.60.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 6.19% to 1,488.90 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 5.48% to settle at 988.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 5.21% to 2,584.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 0 fell and 0 advanced on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.51% to 13.91.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.63% or 47.50 to $2,862.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.84% or 0.59 to hit $69.76 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.76 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 87.47, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 90.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 107.56.
