Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology, Power and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.39%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Electronics Ltd (NSE:BAJE), which rose 4.07% or 13.15 points to trade at 335.95 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NSE:HROM) added 1.83% or 73.10 points to end at 4,058.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN) was up 0.88% or 14.80 points to 1,701.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infosys Ltd (NSE:INFY), which lost 3.63% or 59.00 points to trade at 1,567.90 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NSE:PGRD) declined 3.19% or 9.85 points to end at 299.20 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NSE:HCLT) shed 3.01% or 50.30 points to 1,620.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 0.99% to 1,703.00, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was up 0.46% to settle at 1,369.20 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 0.28% to close at 9,042.00.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 3.57% to 1,568.60 in late trade, Eternal Ltd (BO:ETEA) which lost 3.48% to settle at 231.50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 3.22% to 299.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1656 to 713 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2506 rose and 1307 declined, while 134 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.29% to 18.16.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.93% or 30.05 to $3,258.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.81% or 0.50 to hit $62.45 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.44 to trade at $65.40 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.50% to 85.28, while EUR/INR rose 0.66% to 94.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 101.40.
