India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.49%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.49%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.49%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 4.09% or 14.40 points to trade at 366.35 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 2.80% or 11.05 points to end at 405.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) was up 2.73% or 95.05 points to 3573.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Coal India Limited (NS:COAL), which lost 2.16% or 6.05 points to trade at 274.40 in late trade. TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) declined 2.01% or 6.65 points to end at 324.50 and Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) shed 1.87% or 2.15 points to 113.05.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 3.87% to 365.20, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 2.82% to settle at 3576.65 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which gained 2.47% to close at 3049.95.

The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 2.28% to 274.45 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 2.11% to settle at 324.15 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.18% to 322.65 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 864 to 546 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 520 rose and 311 declined, while 16 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.08% to 16.0250.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.10% or 1.20 to $1259.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.52% or 0.21 to hit $40.57 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.34 to trade at $43.17 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.33% to 66.505, while EUR/INR rose 0.36% to 75.9240.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 93.85.
