Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Transportation & Logistics and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Media, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Financial Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.26%, while the MDAX index declined 0.32%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn), which rose 3.21% or 0.850 points to trade at 27.320 at the close. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) added 1.66% or 2.100 points to end at 128.250 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was up 0.96% or 0.145 points to 15.190 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn), which lost 1.13% or 0.460 points to trade at 40.110 in late trade. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) declined 1.01% or 0.830 points to end at 81.620 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) shed 1.01% or 0.105 points to 10.285.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which rose 2.95% to 27.530, Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which was up 2.52% to settle at 22.775 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which gained 2.08% to close at 8.26.
The worst performers were Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which was down 3.43% to 47.160 in late trade, Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which lost 2.08% to settle at 39.850 and Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which was down 1.79% to 106.700 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which rose 0.78% to 46.075, Suess Microtec NA O.N. (DE:SMHNn) which was up 0.74% to settle at 5.994 and Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which gained 0.60% to close at 15.100.
The worst performers were Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 6.32% to 53.540 in late trade, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which lost 4.62% to settle at 15.165 and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which was down 4.13% to 83.900 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 507 to 356 and 33 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 17.92.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.62% or 8.45 to $1364.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.00% or 1.58 to hit $41.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.71% or 1.55 to trade at $43.35 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.68% to 1.1148, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.8375.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.52% at 95.51.
