FTSE 100 today: Index rises, GBP higher, Burberry recovers, GSK falls
Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction, Technology and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.18%, while the MDAX index lost 1.74%, and the TecDAX index lost 1.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (ETR:VNAn), which rose 0.99% or 0.25 points to trade at 25.53 at the close. E.ON SE (ETR:EONGn) added 0.99% or 0.13 points to end at 13.20 and SAP SE (ETR:SAPG) was up 0.72% or 1.80 points to 250.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p), which lost 4.15% or 4.45 points to trade at 102.80 in late trade. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (ETR:BMWG) declined 3.53% or 2.92 points to end at 79.86 and Dr Ing hc F Porsche AG Preferred (ETR:P911_p) shed 3.40% or 1.84 points to 52.32.
The top performers on the MDAX were AUTO1 Group SE (ETR:AG1G) which rose 2.98% to 22.84, Fraport AG (ETR:FRAG) which was up 2.65% to settle at 58.10 and Talanx AG NA O.N. (ETR:TLXGn) which gained 1.40% to close at 97.50.
The worst performers were Knorr-Bremse AG (ETR:KBX) which was down 6.69% to 88.50 in late trade, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which lost 6.32% to settle at 65.20 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (ETR:JUNG_p) which was down 5.90% to 33.84 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Formycon AG (ETR:FYB) which rose 0.94% to 26.80, SAP SE (ETR:SAPG) which was up 0.72% to settle at 250.15 and IONOS Group SE (ETR:IOSn) which gained 0.39% to close at 25.60.
The worst performers were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:AFXG) which was down 6.32% to 65.20 in late trade, Elmos Semiconductor AG (ETR:ELGG) which lost 4.59% to settle at 66.50 and Nordex SE O.N. (ETR:NDXG) which was down 4.51% to 16.29 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 413 to 214 and 16 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.83% to 22.81 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.19% or 5.79 to $3,046.99 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.67% or 1.12 to hit $68.03 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.64% or 1.16 to trade at $71.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.50% to 1.08, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.36% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 103.51.
