Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Utilities, Financial Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.92%, while the MDAX index added 0.52%, and the TecDAX index added 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which rose 2.91% or 0.237 points to trade at 8.378 at the close. Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRK) added 2.25% or 1.810 points to end at 82.250 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) was up 1.90% or 3.550 points to 190.150 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN), which lost 3.09% or 3.500 points to trade at 109.900 in late trade. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) declined 2.58% or 1.950 points to end at 73.770 and Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) shed 0.90% or 0.670 points to 73.690.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which rose 4.81% to 28.310, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was up 4.08% to settle at 9.44 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which gained 3.79% to close at 29.145.
The worst performers were Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which was down 4.09% to 11.715 in late trade, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which lost 2.51% to settle at 5.02 and Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was down 1.68% to 59.630 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Bechtle AG O.N. (DE:BC8G) which rose 5.54% to 98.900, Drillisch AG O.N. (DE:DRIG) which was up 2.51% to settle at 38.645 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which gained 2.31% to close at 45.235.
The worst performers were Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which was down 5.39% to 24.650 in late trade, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which lost 2.23% to settle at 86.390 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 1.43% to 40.920 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 540 to 349 and 22 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.52% to 22.04.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1271.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.13% or 0.53 to hit $46.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.31 to trade at $47.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.70% to 1.1296, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.7863.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 94.71.
