Investing.com – The former Invesco fund manager Mark Barnett is to return at boutique investment firm Tellworth Management. Barnett – who was at Invesco for 24 years - left the firm in May last year after what was described as a “long period of underperformance”.

Barnett’s return - a fresh start

There had been fears that Barnett’s funds at Invesco could have gone the same way as embattled former colleague Neil Woodford, who saw his largest fund suspended in 2019 after large withdrawals by investors led to a liquidity crunch.

Barnett’s funds at Invesco ranked in the lowest quartile in the sector over three-month, six-month, one-year, three-year, and five-year periods at the time of his departure.

The appointment is an opportunity for Barnett to start afresh, according to Ryan Hughes, head of active portfolios at AJ Bell.

“News that Mark Barnett is resurfacing at Tellworth will no doubt surprise a few people but it presents an interesting opportunity for Barnett to rebuild his reputation after the torrid last few years he had at Invesco,” Hughes said.

About Tellworth Investments

Tellworth Investments was founded in 2017 by former Schroders (LON:SDR) fund management pair John Warren and Paul Marriage. The company manages more than £800 million across four equity funds.

“The addition of a talented investor such as Mark – who has a strong track record of alpha generation in the UK over the long term – further strengthens our team as we look to capitalise on the broad range of opportunities we see within UK equities,” said co-founder Marriage.
