Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Banking, Financials and Technology Hardware & Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 3.74%, while the SBF 120 index declined 3.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Kering (PARIS:PRTP), which fell 0.49% or 0.80 points to trade at 162.50 at the close. Technip (PARIS:TECF) fell 1.07% or 0.61 points to end at 56.39 and Lafarge (PARIS:LAFP) was down 1.57% or 0.97 points to 60.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Societe Generale (PARIS:SOGN), which lost 5.32% or 2.37 points to trade at 42.09 in late trade. AXA SA (PARIS:AXAF) declined 5.26% or 1.25 points to end at 22.60 and Credit Agricole (PARIS:CAGR) shed 5.02% or 0.710 points to 13.425.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Vallourec (PARIS:VLLP) which rose 0.73% to 18.68, Sopra Steria Group SA (PARIS:SOPR) which was up 0.50% to settle at 81.00 and Metropole TV (PARIS:MMTP) which unchanged 0.00% to close at 18.14.
The worst performers were Genfit (PARIS:GNFT) which was down 8.59% to 34.050 in late trade, Innate Pharma (PARIS:IPH) which lost 8.07% to settle at 12.980 and Euronext (PARIS:ENX) which was down 7.04% to 35.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 761 to 70 and 33 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 15.99% to 29.32 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.39% or 4.60 to $1177.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.01% or 1.20 to hit $58.43 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.19% or 1.39 to trade at $61.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.21% to 1.1187, while EUR/GBP rose 0.03% to 0.7092.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 95.28.
