Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, Industrials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ), which rose 4.78% or 0.170 points to trade at 3.730 at the close. Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) added 4.28% or 4.800 points to end at 116.910 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) was up 3.75% or 0.310 points to 8.580 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Exchange Income Corporation (TO:EIF), which lost 7.93% or 2.330 points to trade at 27.050 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 5.76% or 0.19 points to end at 3.11 and Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG) shed 5.29% or 0.31 points to 5.55.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 615 to 465 and 147 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 22.77% to 14.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.06% or 0.72 to $1255.62 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.40% or 0.64 to hit $46.41 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.25% or 0.60 to trade at $48.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.25% to 0.7994, while CAD/EUR rose 0.45% to 0.6867.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 93.82.
