Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Insurance and Retail sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Financial Services and Consumer & Cyclical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.12%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.01%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 4.29% or 0.322 points to trade at 7.822 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 1.96% or 2.700 points to end at 140.450 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) was up 1.43% or 2.250 points to 159.550 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which lost 1.75% or 0.55 points to trade at 30.80 in late trade. Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) declined 1.52% or 1.750 points to end at 113.150 and Siemens AG (DE:SIEGn) shed 1.48% or 1.750 points to 116.200.
The top performers on the MDAX were Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which rose 3.18% to 65.950, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which was up 2.82% to settle at 35.930 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which gained 2.74% to close at 9.40.
The worst performers were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was down 2.45% to 29.800 in late trade, Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which lost 2.09% to settle at 11.740 and LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was down 2.00% to 73.400 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which rose 2.75% to 12.700, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was up 1.74% to settle at 46.700 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which gained 1.48% to close at 42.500.
The worst performers were Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which was down 2.18% to 98.310 in late trade, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which lost 1.87% to settle at 44.955 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 1.67% to 53.550 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 473 to 301 and 21 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.80% to 17.29.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.81% or 9.35 to $1161.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.29% or 1.23 to hit $52.49 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.11% or 1.20 to trade at $55.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.36% to 1.0417, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.8500.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.76% at 103.15.
