Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.72% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pet Valu Holdings Ltd (TSX:PET), which rose 11.19% or 2.70 points to trade at 26.82 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 6.17% or 0.34 points to end at 5.85 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was up 3.20% or 0.50 points to 16.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which lost 6.11% or 4.12 points to trade at 63.35 in late trade. iA Financial Corporation Inc (TSX:IAG) declined 6.08% or 8.19 points to end at 126.62 and BROOKFIELD ASSET MANAGEMENT LTD (TSX:BAM) shed 5.50% or 4.42 points to 75.98.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 670 to 281 and 86 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.39% to 15.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.88% or 25.39 to $2,926.49 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.75% or 0.51 to hit $67.86 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.91% or 0.65 to trade at $70.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.71% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.63% to 0.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.11% at 105.49.
