Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 2.75% or 0.26 points to trade at 9.70 at the close. Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) added 2.07% or 0.66 points to end at 32.50 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) was up 1.68% or 0.14 points to 8.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 8.08% or 0.40 points to trade at 4.55 in late trade. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) declined 8.01% or 2.15 points to end at 24.68 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) shed 7.83% or 1.13 points to 13.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 864 to 173 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 21.08% to 21.25.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.63% or 28.45 to $1,712.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.26% or 0.23 to hit $87.55 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.67% or 0.63 to trade at $93.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 1.32% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.14% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.37% at 109.58.
