Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.44% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 9.76% or 0.12 points to trade at 1.35 at the close. Storagevault Canada Inc (TSX:SVI) added 7.24% or 0.27 points to end at 4.00 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) was up 5.05% or 0.43 points to 8.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN), which lost 11.26% or 1.90 points to trade at 14.97 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) declined 8.93% or 0.80 points to end at 8.16 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 8.45% or 1.60 points to 17.34.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 660 to 247 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.81% to 14.99.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.20% or 5.81 to $2,950.29 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.09% or 2.24 to hit $70.24 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.92% or 2.23 to trade at $74.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 106.55.
