Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE), which rose 5.18% or 1.08 points to trade at 21.94 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 4.58% or 0.350 points to end at 8.000 and MAG Silver Corp . (TO:MAG) was up 4.08% or 0.63 points to 16.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ShawCor Ltd . (TO:SCL), which lost 2.87% or 0.87 points to trade at 29.47 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) declined 2.81% or 0.13 points to end at 4.50 and Genworth MI Canada Inc . (TO:MIC) shed 2.39% or 0.77 points to 31.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 577 to 521 and 155 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.91% to 12.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.82% or 10.35 to $1266.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.82% or 0.89 to hit $49.79 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.36% or 0.70 to trade at $52.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.24% to 0.7434, while CAD/EUR rose 0.57% to 0.6653.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 97.36.
