Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 11.52% or 2.76 points to trade at 26.72 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 10.23% or 3.33 points to end at 35.87 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was up 8.37% or 0.42 points to 5.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Capital Group Inc . (TSX:HCG), which lost 6.18% or 1.59 points to trade at 24.15 in late trade. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb) declined 3.59% or 0.08 points to end at 2.15 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX) shed 2.78% or 0.52 points to 18.19.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 702 to 286 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.97% to 24.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.43% or 23.35 to $1,660.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.72% or 0.61 to hit $85.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.23% or 1.14 to trade at $93.52 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.92% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.16% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.91% at 111.79.
