Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.94% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 9.31% or 0.19 points to trade at 2.23 at the close. ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN) added 6.90% or 0.46 points to end at 7.13 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 6.11% or 2.29 points to 39.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Park Lawn Corp (TSX:PLC), which lost 6.02% or 1.92 points to trade at 30.00 in late trade. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) declined 3.69% or 0.53 points to end at 13.85 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) shed 3.10% or 0.31 points to 9.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 695 to 326 and 92 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.84% to 17.05 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.53% or 9.55 to $1,816.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.68% or 2.53 to hit $91.81 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.75% or 1.74 to trade at $97.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.51% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 105.55.
