Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 9.42% or 1.57 points to trade at 18.23 at the close. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) added 8.58% or 0.52 points to end at 6.58 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 7.83% or 0.47 points to 6.47 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which lost 4.92% or 0.52 points to trade at 10.05 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 4.69% or 0.03 points to end at 0.61 and G Mining Ventures Corp (TSX:GMIN) shed 4.52% or 0.90 points to 18.99.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 634 to 288 and 63 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.19% to 24.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 3.44% or 117.60 to $3,301.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.12% or 1.35 to hit $62.32 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.88% or 1.27 to trade at $66.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.44% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.47% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.03% at 99.71.
