Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 6.96% or 0.56 points to trade at 8.61 at the close. International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) added 5.28% or 1.02 points to end at 20.34 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) was up 5.13% or 0.86 points to 17.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fortuna Mining Corp (TSX:FVI), which lost 8.34% or 0.61 points to trade at 6.70 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 3.03% or 0.04 points to end at 1.28 and Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TSX:CTCa) shed 2.77% or 3.99 points to 140.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 533 to 424 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.20% to 14.83.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.80% or 52.07 to $2,952.77 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.54% or 1.09 to hit $71.80 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.59 to trade at $75.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.34% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 106.94.
