Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which rose 20.57% or 0.72 points to trade at 4.22 at the close. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) added 15.67% or 0.42 points to end at 3.10 and Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) was up 11.41% or 5.54 points to 54.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI), which lost 3.42% or 1.09 points to trade at 30.80 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 3.09% or 1.63 points to end at 51.11 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) shed 2.85% or 0.07 points to 2.39.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 675 to 349 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.26% to 20.04.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.79% or 14.15 to $1,805.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.51% or 1.34 to hit $90.35 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 1.30 to trade at $96.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.54% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.46% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 106.28.
