Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Knight Therapeutics Inc (TSX:GUD), which rose 13.85% or 1.04 points to trade at 8.55 at the close. Hudson's Bay Company (TSX:HBC) added 6.14% or 0.58 points to end at 10.03 and Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) was up 4.14% or 0.47 points to 11.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ), which lost 4.92% or 0.030 points to trade at 0.580 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) declined 4.71% or 0.220 points to end at 4.450 and Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) shed 4.50% or 0.74 points to 15.71.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 570 to 465 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.54% to 12.13.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 6.45 to $1487.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.45% or 0.24 to hit $53.63 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $59.07 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7640, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.6853.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.050.
