Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which rose 11.57% or 0.28 points to trade at 2.70 at the close. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) added 8.64% or 1.30 points to end at 16.34 and Spartan Delta Corp (TSX:SDE) was up 6.57% or 0.94 points to 15.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BROOKFIELD ASSET MANAGEMENT LTD (TSX:BAM), which lost 7.08% or 3.17 points to trade at 41.60 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 3.25% or 1.24 points to end at 36.92 and Toronto Dominion Bank (TSX:TD) shed 2.74% or 2.50 points to 88.65.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 630 to 403 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.44% to 16.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.65% or 29.65 to $1,821.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.99% or 2.19 to hit $75.36 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 3.35% or 2.61 to trade at $80.60 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.65% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.10% at 103.61.
