Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Toromont Industries Ltd . (TO:TIH), which rose 11.07% or 4.97 points to trade at 49.87 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 7.92% or 0.64 points to end at 8.72 and Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY) was up 6.47% or 0.280 points to 4.610 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ShawCor Ltd . (TO:SCL), which lost 4.98% or 1.28 points to trade at 24.40 in late trade. Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) declined 4.23% or 0.13 points to end at 2.94 and TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) shed 3.72% or 0.19 points to 4.92.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 586 to 515 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.83% to 13.56 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.35% or 17.58 to $1315.48 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.38% or 1.14 to hit $46.73 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.87% or 0.45 to trade at $51.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.25% to 0.7997, while CAD/EUR fell 0.57% to 0.6677.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 92.19.
