Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.22% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 13.70% or 1.24 points to trade at 10.29 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 12.02% or 0.90 points to end at 8.39 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) was up 9.98% or 0.43 points to 4.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which lost 4.50% or 0.500 points to trade at 10.600 in late trade. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 4.49% or 0.63 points to end at 13.41 and Souza Cruz SA (SA:CRUZ3) shed 4.04% or 1.10 points to 26.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 163 to 112 and 5 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.58% to 32.53.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.46% or 5.40 to $1192.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.78% or 1.64 to hit $60.67 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.02% or 0.03 to trade at $133.32 .
USD/BRL was down 0.77% to 3.0615, while EUR/BRL fell 0.46% to 3.4240.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 95.27.
