Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 13.16% or 2.50 points to trade at 21.50 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 6.20% or 0.40 points to end at 6.85 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) was up 4.76% or 0.06 points to 1.32 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which lost 7.78% or 0.55 points to trade at 6.52 in late trade. Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4) declined 4.61% or 0.13 points to end at 2.69 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) shed 3.01% or 0.55 points to 17.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 165 to 136 and 5 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.40% to 32.52.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.05% or 0.60 to $1189.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $60.27 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 2.27% or 2.88 to trade at $129.25 .
USD/BRL was down 0.39% to 3.1644, while EUR/BRL fell 1.07% to 3.4572.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.60% at 97.52.
