Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.50%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Light SA (SA:LIGT3), which rose 6.17% or 1.00 points to trade at 17.20 at the close. Banco Santander Brasil SA (SA:SANB11) added 5.40% or 0.82 points to end at 16.00 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) was up 5.27% or 0.39 points to 7.79 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4), which lost 7.02% or 0.21 points to trade at 2.78 in late trade. PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3) declined 5.88% or 0.030 points to end at 0.480 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 4.97% or 0.31 points to 5.93.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 143 to 137 and 2 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.25% to 32.09.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.70% or 8.40 to $1211.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $56.97 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.35% or 0.47 to trade at $137.70 .

USD/BRL was up 0.66% to 2.9372, while EUR/BRL rose 1.50% to 3.2244.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.73% at 96.19.
