Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 6.07% or 0.56 points to trade at 9.78 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 4.78% or 0.32 points to end at 7.02 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) was up 3.64% or 0.85 points to 24.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4), which lost 3.41% or 0.10 points to trade at 2.83 in late trade. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 2.65% or 0.50 points to end at 18.40 and PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3) shed 2.38% or 0.010 points to 0.410.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 140 to 136 and 8 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.31% to 28.99.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.21% or 2.50 to $1207.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.13% or 0.08 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 1.47% or 1.90 to trade at $127.15 .
USD/BRL was up 0.17% to 3.0978, while EUR/BRL fell 0.07% to 3.4028.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 96.46.
