Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Banking, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.08%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ), which rose 3.97% or 8.20 points to trade at 214.50 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 3.84% or 124.80 points to end at 3375.00 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) was up 3.82% or 14.95 points to 406.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC), which lost 3.62% or 45.65 points to trade at 1216.95 in late trade. Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) declined 2.87% or 4.40 points to end at 149.00 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 2.66% or 6.65 points to 243.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 3.80% to 405.95, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 3.42% to settle at 1224.90 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which gained 3.37% to close at 487.25.
The worst performers were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 3.42% to 1219.25 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.46% to settle at 243.60 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 1.40% to 2597.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1125 to 368 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1896 rose and 787 declined, while 82 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.36% to 15.8300.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.53% or 6.10 to $1152.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $53.90 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.11 to trade at $56.74 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 68.120, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 71.4070.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 102.37.
