Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Insurance, Media and Retail sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.48%, while the MDAX index declined 0.07%, and the TecDAX index lost 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which rose 2.41% or 0.395 points to trade at 16.800 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 1.99% or 2.400 points to end at 123.000 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) was up 1.15% or 1.750 points to 153.300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG), which lost 2.24% or 3.750 points to trade at 163.400 in late trade. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) declined 1.74% or 0.121 points to end at 6.822 and Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) shed 1.56% or 1.020 points to 64.500.
The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group SE (F:AIRG) which rose 2.12% to 59.752, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was up 1.48% to settle at 59.110 and MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) which gained 1.26% to close at 97.460.
The worst performers were Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which was down 2.80% to 33.82 in late trade, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which lost 2.43% to settle at 30.855 and Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 2.13% to 4.51 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 2.86% to 22.695, S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was up 1.44% to settle at 9.620 and Aixtron SE (F:AIXC) which gained 1.29% to close at 3.861.
The worst performers were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 4.21% to 44.150 in late trade, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which lost 3.69% to settle at 37.635 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 2.39% to 42.950 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 543 to 345 and 26 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.47% to 18.81.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.93% or 23.35 to $1187.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.12% or 0.06 to hit $48.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $49.13 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.68% to 1.0553, while EUR/GBP fell 0.87% to 0.8478.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.62% at 101.72.
