Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Power and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX gained 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were AFK Sistema (MCX:AFKS), which rose 6.00% or 1.200 points to trade at 21.200 at the close. Moskovskaya Birzha OAO (MCX:MOEX) added 5.23% or 5.91 points to end at 119.00 and Rosneft (MCX:ROSN) was up 4.79% or 15.35 points to 336.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MegaFon OAO (MCX:MFON), which lost 2.74% or 20.50 points to trade at 726.50 in late trade. AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) declined 1.96% or 3300 points to end at 164700 and MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN) shed 1.75% or 148.0 points to 8300.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 108 to 107 and 13 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 1.68% to 34.420.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.39% or 5.05 to $1289.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.68% or 1.30 to hit $49.86 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.73% or 1.34 to trade at $50.51 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 1.11% to 64.1255, while EUR/RUB fell 0.85% to 72.500.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.57% at 93.76.
