Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Fishery, Transportation Equipment and Warehousing sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103), which rose 4.48% or 3.0 points to trade at 70.0 at the close. Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503) added 3.54% or 54.0 points to end at 1578.5 and Asahi Kasei Corp. (T:3407) was up 3.41% or 29.7 points to 901.4 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602), which lost 2.65% or 85.0 points to trade at 3120.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) declined 2.57% or 35.0 points to end at 1327.5 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) shed 2.05% or 19.0 points to 906.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1926 to 1024 and 354 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.68% to 18.79.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.37% or 0.19 to $50.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.23% or 0.12 to hit $51.66 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.03% or 0.35 to trade at $1267.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 103.75, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 112.95.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 98.61.
