Proactive Investors - Airbus Group (EPA:AIR) said it aims to recruit 13,000 people this year, continuing an expansion which saw a similar number of employees added in 2022.
In 2020, the first year of the Covid, the Paris-based planemaker announced plans to cut up to 15,000 jobs, including 1,700 in the UK.
Arond 7,000 new posts will be created through the drive, with recruits added around its European network, focused on France, Germany and Spain.
“The new hires will contribute to Airbus’ pioneering role in sustainable aerospace, while also contributing to its continued business ramp-up and advancing key transformation projects,” it said in a press release.
A quarter of the new jobs will focus on decarbonisation, digital transformation, software engineering and cyber technology, while a third will be allocated to graduates.
“Airbus demonstrated its resilience throughout the COVID-19 crisis and is now very well positioned for the next challenges,” commented chief human resources officer Thierry Baril.
The aviation industry has seen a resurgence in demand following the pandemic.
Customers easyJet (LON:EZJ) and Wizz Air (LON:WIZZ) have managed to stem losses as a result, reporting 47% and 59% jumps in passenger numbers in 2022 respectively – marking positive news for 2023 for the budget carriers.
In December Airbus reported it had delivered 563 aircraft by November and expected to miss its targeted 700 aircraft deliveries for the year, which will be confirmed when it reports on Thursday, 16 February.
