Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX declined 5.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Ahold Kon (AS:AHLN), which fell 1.52% or 0.30 points to trade at 19.38 at the close. Relx NV (AS:RELN) fell 1.68% or 0.255 points to end at 14.915 and Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) was down 1.88% or 0.890 points to 46.395 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ING Groep NV (AS:ING), which lost 14.94% or 1.640 points to trade at 9.335 in late trade. ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) declined 12.85% or 0.618 points to end at 4.191 and Randstad (AS:RAND) shed 12.62% or 5.92 points to 40.97.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 157 to 16 and 9 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 8.72% to 30.39.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 4.75% or 2.38 to $47.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 4.79% or 2.44 to hit $48.47 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 4.49% or 56.75 to trade at $1319.85 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 2.29% to 1.1122, while EUR/GBP rose 6.55% to 0.8152.
The US Dollar Index was up 2.38% at 95.55.
