Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Real Estate and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 9.76% or 50.800 points to trade at 571.400 at the close. BP PLC (LON:BP) added 4.32% or 15.5500 points to end at 375.9000 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 3.57% or 2.4100 points to 70.0000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN), which lost 4.62% or 14.30 points to trade at 295.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.65% or 61.00 points to end at 2245.00 and Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) shed 2.53% or 30.00 points to 1157.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1032 to 1007 and 456 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.25% or 3.10 to $1243.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.14% or 1.34 to hit $43.98 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.93% or 1.30 to trade at $45.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.4602, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7744.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 94.41.
