Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Finance & Investment and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NKSJ Holdings, Inc. (T:8630), which rose 4.27% or 184.0 points to trade at 4491.0 at the close. Kubota Corp. (T:6326) added 4.22% or 71.0 points to end at 1751.5 and Comsys Holdings Corp. (T:1721) was up 3.84% or 88.0 points to 2380.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (T:6857), which lost 1.56% or 31.0 points to trade at 1950.0 in late trade. Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) declined 1.20% or 13.0 points to end at 1074.0 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) shed 0.99% or 80.0 points to 8004.9.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2190 to 861 and 318 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.49% to 17.14.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.99% or 0.50 to $51.17 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.93% or 0.50 to hit $54.11 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.09% or 1.15 to trade at $1254.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 111.43, while EUR/JPY fell 0.19% to 124.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 97.29.
