Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 6.60% to hit a new 6-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 18.18% or 1.22 points to trade at 7.93 at the close. Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) added 14.37% or 2.60 points to end at 20.69 and Banco Bradesco SA (SA:BBDC4) was up 13.03% or 3.21 points to 27.85 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which lost 4.49% or 0.64 points to trade at 13.61 in late trade. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 3.94% or 1.39 points to end at 33.90 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) shed 3.16% or 0.74 points to 22.68.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 222 to 71 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.34% to 54.70 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 2.28% or 28.10 to $1257.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.73% or 1.82 to hit $40.28 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 3.00% or 3.88 to trade at $133.00 .

USD/BRL was down 2.86% to 3.6374, while EUR/BRL fell 2.08% to 4.1156.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.94% at 94.80.
