Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Power and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TOKYO:5706), which rose 4.52% or 15.0 points to trade at 347.0 at the close. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4911) added 3.36% or 86.0 points to end at 2646.5 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:2269) was up 3.21% or 450.0 points to 14490.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dentsu Inc. (TOKYO:4324), which lost 3.72% or 230.0 points to trade at 5950.0 in late trade. The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503) declined 3.06% or 43.0 points to end at 1364.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501) shed 2.81% or 20.0 points to 693.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 981 to 902 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.94% to 17.79.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.34% or 0.20 to $58.93 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.28% or 0.17 to hit $63.13 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.40% or 4.70 to trade at $1172.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.28% to 125.23, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 139.49.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.19% at 96.19.
