Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, Food Producers and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.47% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Standard Chartered (LONDON:STAN), which rose 4.25% or 45.50 points to trade at 1115.50 at the close. HSBC Holdings Plc (LONDON:HSBA) added 3.11% or 19.60 points to end at 649.30 and Hargreaves Lansdown Plc (LONDON:HRGV) was up 2.88% or 34.00 points to 1215.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aggreko (LONDON:AGGK), which lost 1.91% or 32.00 points to trade at 1640.00 in late trade. Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) declined 1.84% or 7.70 points to end at 410.30 and Tesco (LONDON:TSCO) shed 1.78% or 4.00 points to 220.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1660 to 942 and 453 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 2.34% or 27.50 to $1202.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.52% or 0.30 to hit $57.45 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.12 to trade at $65.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.5245, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7156.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.34% at 96.74.
