Investing.com – Spain equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Building & Construction and Telecoms & IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 fell 1.83% to hit a new 3-year low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Bankia (MC:BKIA), which rose 6.87% or 0.039 points to trade at 0.607 at the close. Merlin Properties SA (MC:MRL) added 5.83% or 0.49 points to end at 8.82 and Endesa (MC:ELE) was up 5.04% or 0.815 points to 16.980 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Int.Airl.Grp (MC:ICAG), which lost 17.93% or 0.900 points to trade at 4.118 in late trade. Ferrovial (MC:FER) declined 6.86% or 1.175 points to end at 15.955 and Arcel. Mittal (MC:MTS) shed 4.77% or 0.200 points to 3.996.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 154 to 56 and 6 ended unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.17% or 2.25 to $1324.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.98% or 1.42 to hit $46.22 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.88% or 1.41 to trade at $47.63 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.79% to 1.1029, while EUR/GBP rose 2.82% to 0.8355.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.92% at 96.51.
