Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials, Electric Power and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which rose 7.26% or 1.75 points to trade at 25.85 at the close. Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) added 4.50% or 1.15 points to end at 26.70 and Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) was up 3.36% or 0.46 points to 14.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which lost 13.00% or 0.13 points to trade at 0.87 in late trade. Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) declined 5.49% or 0.14 points to end at 2.41 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) shed 4.86% or 0.07 points to 1.37.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 148 to 120 and 25 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.98% to 49.73.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 2.05% or 24.80 to $1236.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.04% or 0.32 to hit $30.34 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.71% or 0.83 to trade at $115.97 .
USD/BRL was up 1.09% to 4.0278, while EUR/BRL rose 0.79% to 4.4686.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.10% at 96.97.
