Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Healthcare and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 1.05% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Coal India Limited (NS:COAL), which rose 2.01% or 6.65 points to trade at 337.10 at the close. NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC) added 0.70% or 0.95 points to end at 136.00 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NS:HROM) was up 0.67% or 17.65 points to 2638.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 4.71% or 4.65 points to trade at 94.05 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 4.29% or 36.55 points to end at 815.95 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) shed 4.25% or 10.00 points to 225.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which rose 2.13% to 337.30, NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.97% to settle at 136.00 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which gained 0.93% to close at 2638.60.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 4.66% to 94.10 in late trade, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which lost 4.33% to settle at 225.60 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 4.28% to 815.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1114 to 328 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 617 fell and 169 advanced, while 3 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 0.32% to 19.2925.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.20 to $1107.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.14% or 0.07 to hit $46.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.23 to trade at $48.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.29% to 65.800, while EUR/INR rose 0.06% to 71.3380.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 98.12.
