Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Manufacturing and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 3.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5715), which rose 11.88% or 31.0 points to trade at 292.0 at the close. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5713) added 9.27% or 131.5 points to end at 1549.5 and Sharp Corp. (TOKYO:6753) was up 8.93% or 15.0 points to 183.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ANA Holdings Inc. (TOKYO:9202), which lost 1.14% or 4.1 points to trade at 354.9 in late trade. NTT Docomo, Inc. (TOKYO:9437) declined 0.65% or 16.5 points to end at 2512.5 and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5232) shed 0.21% or 1.0 points to 476.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1813 to 63 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 17.77% to 29.67.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.67% or 0.28 to $42.84 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.29% or 0.14 to hit $47.70 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.64% or 7.20 to trade at $1129.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.02% to 121.06, while EUR/JPY rose 0.18% to 136.37.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 95.69.
