Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Fishery and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nichirei Corp. (TOKYO:2871), which rose 6.96% or 50.0 points to trade at 768.0 at the close. Tokyu Fudosan (TOKYO:3289) added 3.23% or 30.0 points to end at 960.0 and The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (TOKYO:8750) was up 3.19% or 75.5 points to 2444.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7735), which lost 2.33% or 19.0 points to trade at 798.0 in late trade. Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TOKYO:5706) declined 2.22% or 8.0 points to end at 353.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5707) shed 2.08% or 9.0 points to 423.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1001 to 881 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.48% to 18.13.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.12% or 0.07 to $60.33 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $64.63 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.27% or 3.20 to trade at $1182.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 123.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.34% to 138.52.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 95.43.
