Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Glass, Transport and Rubber sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sony Corp. (T:6758), which rose 3.84% or 138.0 points to trade at 3730.0 at the close. Terumo Corp. (T:4543) added 3.73% or 145.0 points to end at 4030.0 and Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983) was up 3.70% or 1300.0 points to 36410.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which lost 4.83% or 92.0 points to trade at 1813.0 in late trade. JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411) declined 1.59% or 29.5 points to end at 1827.5 and Komatsu Ltd. (T:6301) shed 1.28% or 35.5 points to 2728.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2062 to 997 and 291 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.30% to 20.22.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.79% or 0.39 to $50.01 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.82% or 0.43 to hit $52.87 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 1.25% or 16.11 to trade at $1272.99 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.93% to 110.12, while EUR/JPY rose 2.25% to 119.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.72% at 98.94.
