Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Media and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.09%, while the MDAX index fell 0.51%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which rose 0.70% or 0.21 points to trade at 30.98 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 0.23% or 0.014 points to end at 6.148 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) was down 0.09% or 0.060 points to 67.060 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which lost 3.09% or 0.204 points to trade at 6.395 in late trade. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) declined 2.49% or 0.370 points to end at 14.480 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) shed 2.18% or 0.275 points to 12.345.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which rose 1.41% to 29.220, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was up 1.21% to settle at 4.58 and LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which gained 0.91% to close at 72.400.
The worst performers were Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which was down 4.36% to 36.345 in late trade, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which lost 2.48% to settle at 35.22 and Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was down 2.22% to 58.600 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which rose 3.18% to 44.005, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was up 1.34% to settle at 6.140 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which gained 0.26% to close at 36.895.
The worst performers were RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which was down 3.84% to 13.540 in late trade, Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which lost 2.06% to settle at 52.850 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was down 1.87% to 42.920 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 591 to 293 and 28 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 10.12% to 20.92.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.90% or 10.60 to $1189.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.69% or 1.24 to hit $47.30 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.43% or 1.17 to trade at $49.41 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.09% to 1.0577, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.8525.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 101.49.
