Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Engineering and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 4.77% or 315.00 points to trade at 6925.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 1.73% or 21.00 points to end at 1233.00 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 1.49% or 5.3500 points to 364.8500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 3.81% or 38.00 points to trade at 960.00 in late trade. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 3.06% or 67.00 points to end at 2124.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 2.95% or 18.60 points to 612.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1795 to 359 and 356 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 1.75% or 22.55 to $1310.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.52% or 1.69 to hit $46.32 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.57% or 1.75 to trade at $47.22 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.71% to 1.4106, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.7914.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.62% at 95.26.
