Trump says he is not pining for negative interest rates in U.S.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump, who has decried the relative loftiness of U.S. interest rates compared to rates in nations that compete with the United States in global markets, said on Friday he did not want to see negative rates in the United States.

Trump, who has repeatedly noted that rates are negative in Germany - Europe's trading powerhouse - made the comment in response to a question from reporters as he departed the White House for the presidential retreat of Camp David in Maryland.

The use of interest rates is either to stop people from spending money when inflation is too high. or to allow people to keep more of the money they earn by saving them a bit of interest on loans so that they can spend a little more when the economy is slowing up. The use of interest rates is not to fight trade wars. That would be currency manipulation. Something which Trump is very anti...so he says. He has economic advisors in the White House to advise him on this little matter. He could save on government spending by firing them because they are obviously not needed.
